Press Release — Dr. Lisa Williams, the director of equity and cultural proficiency for BCPS, will lead the presentation “Ignite the Potential of All Students: Baltimore County Public Schools is Closing the Achievement Gap and Raising the Bar through its Commitment to Equity of Opportunity” on Tuesday, October 24 from 10 – 11 a.m. In her presentation, Dr. Williams will cover key factors to consider when rolling out a district-wide initiative equity initiative.

Press Release — The Digital Content and Curriculum Achievement Award recognizes K-12 schools and districts for breaking new ground in the use of digital content and curriculum, including: Baltimore County Public Schools in Maryland, Pickerington Local School District in Ohio, Bridges Virtual Academy in Wisconsin and Coxsackie-Athens Central School District in New York. According to Kecia Ray, executive director of the Center for Digital Education, these districts are setting an outstanding example for others on how to effectively implement digital curriculum to improve student learning.

District Administration — ASSIST LLC announced the full integration of Apex Learning content into ASSIST 4.0, the company’s Integrated Education Management System for K-12 schools. Schools can access and assign Apex Learning’s middle and high school courses directly on ASSIST. Furthermore, students can also access the courses seamlessly through ASSIST. Available now, the ASSIST system was designed by educators at ASSIST LLC as a new approach in meeting the needs of educational institutions within a single platform.

Utica Observer-Dispatch — Earning a high school diploma is a milestone Herkimer Central School District officials would like to see more of their students achieve. The graduation rate for the district cohort had dropped to 69 percent by the time Robert Miller took over as superintendent in 2013. Since then, Miller said, some improvements have been made. After implementing Apex Learning for credit recovery, the current district graduation rate is now on average with the rest of the state.

Lehigh Acres Citizen — A Lee County School District-approved charter school has relocated to Lehigh Acres. The Donna J. Beasley Technical Academy kicked off the new school year in a new location, renting space from the First Presbyterian Church of Lehigh Acres. Donna J. Beasley offers pre-apprenticeship in the trades of electrical, heating, air conditioning and plumbing. All of the curriculum is online and the school uses the Apex Learning Virtual School.

Current-Argus — Loving Municipal Schools district's 2017-18 school year is off to a good start as they have only one job opening, said superintendent Ann Lynn McIlroy at Tuesday's regular meeting.  Students in the advance placement bilingual class are also utilizing APEX Learning online curriculum, which McIlroy said has been successful. Through the curriculum, about six out of eight students passed the AP exam, she said.
